Orgelkonsert – Light without end
Imagine the low-rising sun, shining with its warm, golden light over the mountains and the sea. It is night – but still daylight all around.
The light flows into the Arctic Cathedral through the great west window, creating a unique and serene atmosphere.
We invite you to spend some quality time in our beautiful church, enjoy the special light, and listen to beautiful organ music, played by our new cantor, Thorsten Ahlrichs.
On Tuesdays (July 8 / 15 / 22 / 29) at 23:00, he will perform a 30-minute program featuring the wonderfully joyful and virtuosic Prelude and Fugue in C major, BWV 531 by Johann Sebastian Bach, the minimalist piece Questa Notte by Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi, and the Suite Norvégienne by French composer Naji Hakim, which includes Norwegian folk tunes translated into the colorful language of the pipe organ.
The concert will conclude with the powerful Toccata pour Grand Orgue by Gaston Bélier, allowing Thorsten to showcase the astonishing power and beauty of the largest instrument in the Arctic.
If you enjoyed the concert and there is still some time left, our cathedral organist might send you home with an improvisation on a well-known Norwegian summer song.
