Organist: Jens Korndörfer
In the summer of 1750, Johann Sebastian Bach—widely regarded as one of history’s greatest composers—died after complications following an eye operation. Although his music was admired during his lifetime, it was only decades later that the world fully recognized the extraordinary depth and beauty of his work. Today, Bach’s music continues to inspire audiences across cultures and genres, from classical concert halls to jazz and film, and remains the cornerstone of the organ repertoire.
German-American organist Jens Korndörfer is the Joyce O. Bowden Professor of Music and Associate Professor of Organ at Baylor University in Texas. An internationally acclaimed concert artist and teacher, he is regularly invited to perform at prestigious venues and festivals around the world.
Korndörfer’s repertoire spans more than five centuries, from Renaissance masterpieces to works of the 21st century, including transcriptions and world premieres. Widely praised as a «prodigious technician» (La Presse, Montreal), his «effortless and poetic playing» (Susan Landale) captivates both seasoned organ enthusiasts and those experiencing an organ recital for the very first time.
In this special concert commemorating the 276th anniversary of Bach’s passing, Dr. Korndörfer presents a program centered on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Alongside some of Bach’s most profound and beloved organ works, the program includes chorale-based compositions that reveal the rich musical tradition from which Bach drew inspiration.
