Ulrike Haage – Alles Licht (All Light)
The highly acclaimed composer and pianist Ulrike Haage is coming to one of the world’s most extraordinary churches, bringing with her music that feels perfectly at home in this unique setting.
Her concert moves effortlessly between classical music, jazz, minimalism, and free improvisation. It is music that breathes, allowing space to unfold. With a calm, unhurried touch, Ulrike Haage creates melodic enchantment from simple motifs—focused, poetic, and profound.
The compositions on Alles Licht were created during the pandemic years, when Haage was searching for a sound that could offer a response to a changed world. In that search, she discovered the organ as a musical dialogue partner for the piano. The music reflects on the gradual disappearance of cherished natural landscapes, precious places of refuge, and the planet’s biodiversity, while offering comfort, beauty, and a sense of direction. The Arctic Cathedrals organist Thorsten Ahlrichs will play the organ part of Ulrike Haages compositions.
As the recipient of the Albert Mangelsdorff Prize, Germany’s most prestigious award for modern jazz, Ulrike Haage has developed a truly distinctive musical language—beyond categories, unmistakable, and deeply moving.
The program includes compositions from her latest album, Alles Licht, as well as the world premiere of Refuge des Souvenirs, a new work for organ and piano, written especially for this evening and this extraordinary venue.
A meditative evening where Arctic light, silence, and sound come together.
