In this concert, we welcome a leading interpreter of contemporary Nordic organ music. James D. Hicks presents a program featuring newly written works from across Scandinavia and Finland. The concert includes the monumental Symphony No. 3 by Kjell Mørk Karlsen, alongside Icelandic folk dance-inspired and jazz-influenced works by Mons Leidvin Takle.
James D. Hicks is an American concert organist based in New Jersey and internationally recognized for his work with Nordic music. Through his acclaimed Nordic Journey project, he has commissioned more than seventy-five new works by composers from Scandinavia and Northern Europe, while also bringing overlooked repertoire to new audiences through recordings and publications. A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory, Yale University, and the University of Cincinnati, Hicks now focuses on concert performance, recording, and publishing projects dedicated to the music of the Nordic countries.
