Vokal Nord invites you to an atmospheric and traditional Christmas concert, with the wonderful Sinikka Langeland as a guest on kantele and singing. The whole thing is led by the choir's artistic director Anna Gallon.
Vokal Nord is Norway's northernmost professional chamber choir, based in Tromsø, and is considered one of the country's leading vocal ensembles. The ensemble was founded in 1997, and has built its identity by combining classical choral sound with vocal use associated with ethnic music from the highlands.
At a concert with Vokal Nord you can expect to hear sharp and special sounds inspired by joik, overtone singing and kveding. This applies both to the specially written contemporary compositions they commission and perform and to the northern Norwegian and Kven folk tunes to which they constantly return. This use of voice is combined with more classical choral sound, and gives the ensemble a very unique character.
