Concert with Sjaella

Nighttime, natural phenomena, and the call for peace and freedom link together in this programme, in which Sjaella harmoniously combines contemporary music, settings of spiritual texts and Baroque sounds.

The call for peace, miracles of nature, and love are timeless and moving themes that take center stage in tonight's concert. New settings of spiritual texts, prayers and hymns by David Lang, Ola Gjeilo and other current artists run through Sjaella's program Eulogy like a golden thread. Following Northern Lights, it strikes a path into nature, where one can listen to water congealing to ice and the ice telling stories in Crystallized, by the young Meredi. The many facets of night come to life both in Henry Purcell's Spirits of the Night – reworked for Sjaella with Baroque and contemporary elements – and in Ēriks Ešenvalds' musical setting of the poem Stars, where the sound of voices and tuned glasses declare an admiration for the starlit sky and the majesty of this universe.
