Concert with Vokal Nord

Northern Norway's only professional choir presents the concert "Misa Tango"

What happens when passionate tango rhythms move into the church space? In Misa Tango, Vokal Nord unites Argentine nerve and classical mass form in Martín Palmeri's internationally successful work Misatango.

Under the direction of conductor Alejandro Pance, the choir is joined by an ensemble with the bandoneon as its pulsating heart. The instrument, brought to Buenos Aires by European immigrants in the 19th century, quickly became the very sound of tango and is inextricably linked to composers such as Astor Piazzolla.

From Buenos Aires to the sound of northern Norway.

Misatango is dedicated to Buenos Aires and has in recent years become one of the most performed Argentine works in the world. It combines the regular elements of the Latin mass with the rhythms and harmonies of tango. The music contains both melodic warmth and tighter, almost symphonic parts, where South American temperament meets the tradition of European church music.

The concert is complemented by other music from the conductor's home country of Argentina, and offers an evening where celebration and rhythmic drive go hand in hand. The result is an atmospheric and vibrant experience – equal parts heartfelt and energetic.
