Funeral

When a person passes away, relatives often experience a demanding time marked by grief and practical challenges. Most people therefore choose to use the services of a funeral home. Funeral homes assist in arranging all the practical details, whether it is a traditional burial or cremation.

Collaboration with the church

The funeral home contacts the Church Office in Tromsø to plan the ceremony. The Church Office forwards information to the responsible priest, who then contacts the relatives to arrange a grief conference. During this conference, the priest will provide support, talk about the deceased's life, and together with the relatives plan the funeral itself.

Spiritual support in the final phase of life

Many people experience a need for spiritual support as their lives approach the end. The priests in Tromsøysund and Ullsfjord are available for home visits or conversations in hospitals or other institutions. They can offer conversations, confessions or communion for those who wish.

What is a grief call?

The bereavement interview is an important part of the preparations for a funeral. It gives relatives the opportunity to:

  • Share memories and tell stories about the life of the deceased.
  • Choose hymns, music and lyrics for the ceremony.
  • Discuss any personal wishes for the funeral.
  • Get support and guidance in your grief.

Facing grief together

The church wants to be a support in a time when it is natural to feel loss and grief. Through conversations, ceremonies and presence, we hope to contribute to comfort and strength in a difficult time.

If you have any questions or would like to contact a priest, please contact the Church Office in Tromsø directly and we will help you further.
